Top Ten Tuesday: Top Ten Facts about Me

Top Ten Tuesday is an original feature/weekly meme created by  The Broke and the Bookish. Each week, bloggers get a topic which entails giving a list of ten things based on the topic.

July 12: Ten Facts about Me (bookish or just general about you facts or ten facts about you as a blogger…whatever you want). Here goes…

Bookish Facts

  • I love buying books but I can’t remember the last time that I read a book that I bought. I always get distracted by books from the library, new releases, gifts from friends and lately, ARCs from NetGalley
  • My favorite book genre is psychological thrillers though I can read any genre… well, apart from fantasy which I am yet to try.

Some More Facts

Sunset at Zanzibar

  • I love traveling. If I had more money, I would travel around the world. I have visited all islands in Kenya and on my 29th birthday, I traveled across the border to Dar Es Salaam and Zanzibar(Tanzania). Most people visit the island for their honeymoons but I decided not to wait. You can read about my trip including the crazy marriage proposal from an island guy over here.
  • I have tried hiking in the past but I realized that I don’t enjoy it as much as just traveling.
  • I am an adrenaline junkie. I mean bungee jumping; zip lining, wild water rafting. I can’t wait to try out some paragliding and skydiving someday. The funny thing is that I had a heights phobia up to my late teens and used to get panic attacks. In my attempt to conquer the phobia, I discovered a new hobby. Now I can’t stop jumping off crazy heights lol
  • I am spontaneous and I have made so many decisions that way. I got a tattoo at 22years old and I can’t really explain the decision (not that I regret it by the way), I moved into my current apartment a week after seeing it. I had no intentions of moving but I saw this new, beautiful apartment and loved the view from the balcony. I ended up losing my deposit on the old apartment but no regrets. I quit my last job and went on vacation without any backup plan. I think I am becoming less spontaneous as I grow older.

Some More Random Facts

  • I love watching crime documentaries and my favorite TV channel is IDx
  • I have been listening to the same kind of music since the 90s. My favorite genre is ol skool(RnB and hiphop). I also like country and some soul music. Here is a post that I did about 90S music.
  • I am an introvert. I spend a lot of time alone and sometimes receiving calls makes me nervous mainly because of the expected small talk. I do chat a lot though.
  • I used to love buying shoes in my 20s and at some point I had over a hundred pairs of shoes. I now have about 20 pairs of shoes only and I haven’t bought any new pair since April (they were really affordable, cute boots so it was justified).

What about you? Share the links to your TTT posts.I look forward to getting to know some facts about you.

  1. I am almost the complete opposite of of you! I am an extrovert and have absolutely no problem talking to anybody – even if it is someone in the street! But I am not spontaneous and would never do half of those things purely because I am deathly afraid of heights and I am not a very strong swimmer! I could spend hours in a decent bookshop … Which is probably why my husband mostly doesn’t come with me, but I have to order most of my books from Amazon because I read in English and the local bookshop has a very limited English section! My favourite documentary at the moment is Making. Murderer because… Well, I don’t think an explain action is necessary!

    1. I watched Making of a Murderer too and the Avery followups on IDx. I definitely get why its your favorite documentary at the moment. We don’t have many bookshops here and those that are there are crazy expensive so I spend time at the library instead. Thanks for stopping by. Happy reading 🙂

      1. I do keep up to date with the Avery case as well! So interesting!! We have a couple, but only one that sells up to date English copies of young adult books! The library is basically a no go because it’s just classics mostly – so I normally just buy books for my kindle!

  2. I completely understand about the buying-books-but-not-reading-them!! XD ME TOO! I tend to just devour the library and ARCs and things and forget to read the books I actually desperately wanted to buy! AHHH. I’m so sad. haha. And omg I admire your adrenaline junkie capabilities! I’m such a scaredy-cat when it comes to that sort of thing…although I do like climbing and would happily climb super high if I could. :’) I used to as a teen but gah, not so much anymore. ;D
    Here’s my TTT!

    1. haha I am glad that I am not the only one with a huge TBR of books bought but yet to be read. Thanks for stopping by Cait. Happy reading and do have a good weekend.

  3. I think a lot of us book nerds are in the same boat with the book buying. I’ve been working on getting better this year, but i still have years of books that have sat unread.

    1. I get what you mean. My TBR pile keeps growing. I will try and come up with a schedule to help me balance my reading so that I can stop neglecting my bookshelf 🙂

  4. Oh god I LOVE traveling too. I’ve never been to any of the places you’ve mentioned, but I literally just returned from a week-long trip from New Zealand several hours ago, haha. I’m also spontaneous, but think only occasionally — some (not all) of my biggest life decisions have been made in the spur of a moment. 😛

And yay for shoes! I have way too many pairs than is necessary, haha. Do you regularly wear all the 20 that you own?

    Here’s my TTT, if you’re interested. 🙂

    1. haha no. I have a few pairs that I wear most. I love seeing all the shoes there though. How was New Zealand? A friend visited recently, it looks beautiful where she was with all the green countryside. Spontaneity is good though definitely not always. Thanks for the comment. Heading over to your post now 🙂

  5. I hate talking on the phone. Like you, I just don’t care for small talk. Also, and it’s apparently something to do with the Asperger’s thing – I have a really hard time telling when it’s my turn to talk unless I can see the other person’s face.

    My TTT.

    1. I didn’t know that. I had to look up Asperger’s on Google and yes, there is something about social interactions and communications. I will read up more on it.Thanks for the comment. Heading over to your post now.

  6. Great facts! I’m an introvert as well; I really don’t like phone calls at all, although things have been better ever since I was forced to make a lot of calls daily at my job. 😉 Also, I LOVE to travel! That sunset picture is simply gorgeous. Africa is still on my list, although I will probably first go back to Europe with my hubby next year. And wild water rafting is awesome! 😀

    1. Glad your job helped with the phone calls issue:-) Also glad to know that you like traveling too.I hope the Europe trip goes well for you and your hubby. I want to explore Africa some more before I can dream of other continents but hopefully some day I will get to see the rest of the world.Yeah wild water rafting is awesome, scary but definitely quite a thrill 🙂

  7. Yay, fellow introvert here, though I love to chat, too 🙂 Also, yesss hip hop!! I wish I could be as spontaneous as you, but I need to plan everything!

    1. Being organized and a good planner is a good thing 🙂 I keep trying to do more of that though I haven’t had much success so far. Glad to meet someone else who likes hip-hop too 🙂

    1. haha that is interesting. I can’t avoid the library and then I always feel obligated to read everything that I borrow. Thanks for stopping by. On my way to your post now 🙂

  8. I would love to travel more, but I have moved so many times in my adult life that it is like traveling 🙂 I’ve lived in a total of 5 states and in two states here (in U.S.) I lived in several different locations too.

I tend to request Netgalley books and read library books or buy used paperbacks at shops but don’t like to pay full-price for books. I do download some e-books, as I find them cheaper than print.

I didn’t know that Kenya had islands– see, I need to travel more 🙂 Glad you enjoyed your trips.

    1. That does sound like a lot of locations, I am sure its just like traveling because you got to see new places, meet new people and enjoy new scenery:-) I have only lived in one town, Nairobi so I guess that is why I like seeing what else is out there. Yes Kenya has Mombasa, Malindi and Lamu along the Indian Ocean and Rusinga Island along Lake Victoria 🙂

  9. Cute, affordable boots are totally okay to buy! I love buying books too, but when all my library holds come in, it’s easy to neglect my own library. Also, I am an introvert and it’s sometimes hard to explain to people that alone time is something I need. Enjoyed reading about you!

    1. Thanks Alicia and glad to see that we have some stuff in common. I think most extroverts just have a hard time with accepting introverts. They don’t understand how anyone would want to be alone though it makes sense to us. Thanks for stopping by 🙂

    1. Thanks Daisy. On my way to your log now. If you visit Kenya, let me know. I will show you around 🙂 Heading over to your post now.

  10. Oh! I hope you try a fantasy book soon (it’s my favorite genre). I can’t say I’m an adrenaline junkie since I’ve never done anything that outrageous but I am willing to try haha. I marathon the ID channel all the time. It used to creep me out but now I think I’m desensitized haha

    1. Nice to meet another ID fan 🙂 I only change the channel to catch the local news briefly. I will give fantasy a try this year. That is my reading challenge. I started the year planning on trying out fantasy and classics but I have only managed classics so far.
