Review
I didn’t know what to expect when I picked this book. I expected it to be more of science fiction with some scientific experiments along the way and not really a thriller.The story starts off slow with Scott at work. The hallucinations begin from the first chapter and at first, they were a bit confusing. However, I soon got the hang of it and finally understood the role that they played in the narrative.
When Scott meets Dr. Balckwell, the pace moves a bit faster and things get really exciting. It becomes clear that the Dr.Blackwell is hiding something. Along the way, some surprises occur in form of Scott’s visions. In addition, Scott starts seeing visions of different tragedies and he is faced with the dilemma of how to stop the tragedies before they occur.
The main characters in this book are Scott, his wife Grace and Dr. Blackwell. In terms of character development, I think I was able connect more with Scott compared to the other two characters. He was sympathetic and it was easy to see how his gift affected him. Grace plays the role of the supportive wife but there isn’t much that is revealed about her. Dr. Blackwell is the ultimate villain who adds the suspense and action in the story.
The 2nd Sight: Capturing Insight by Ben A. Sharpton was a different kind of genre for me. It was captivating especially from the second chapter and I was able to read it in just one afternoon. The pacing alternates between fast slow. There are chapters that are pretty intense and had me at the edge of my seat while others took sometime to get into. This was a good read. My only issue is that I did not like the ending. It felt like anti-climax to such a captivating read.
However, I did like the writing style, uniqueness of the paranormal aspect and the fact that this is book is quite thought provoking despite being a work of fiction. After reading it, I had a discussion with my friend on what we would do if we ever got the ability to see the future. He said that he would hide away in a cave to escape the ‘gift’ which he thinks is actually a curse. I said that I would use it to make money lol.Clearly, these thrillers are turning me into a villain.
If you enjoy thrillers, paranormal novels then you may like this one.
