So here’s my 3 W’s for the week.

Lisa Jewell’s I Found You has everything that makes a good thriller. It has secrets, lies, murder, a dancing peacock and twisted characters. It also has amnesiac characters which I find quite interesting in thrillers. The writing is so addictive that I couldn’t turn the pages first enough. I remember getting to the last page and just sitting there in awe of the author. How did she come up with such an awesome plotline with all these incredible characters? Everything about this book was just perfect! I highly recommend this book to all fans of this genre.

About the book

i-found-you

In a windswept British seaside town, single mom Alice Lake finds a man sitting on the beach outside her house. He has no name, no jacket, and no idea how he got there. Against her better judgment, she invites him inside.

Meanwhile, in a suburb of London, twenty-one-year-old Lily Monrose has only been married for three weeks. When her new husband fails to come home from work one night she is left stranded in a new country where she knows no one. Then the police tell her that her husband never existed.

Twenty-three years earlier, Gray and Kirsty are teenagers on a summer holiday with their parents. Their annual trip to the quaint seaside town is passing by uneventfully, until an enigmatic young man starts paying extra attention to Kirsty. Something about him makes Gray uncomfortable—and it’s not just that he’s playing the role of protective older brother.

Two decades of secrets, a missing husband, and a man with no memory are at the heart of this brilliant new novel, filled with the “beautiful writing, believable characters, pacey narrative, and dark secrets” (London Daily Mail) that make Lisa Jewell so beloved by audiences on both sides of the Atlantic.

Say Nothing by Brad Parks

I started reading this book on Monday and I like it so far. The book started out really strong but I feel like it slowed down a bit after a while. Don’t get me wrong though, it is still a captivating read but I hope that the pace will pick up a little bit.

say-nothingAbout the book

Judge Scott Sampson doesn’t brag about having a perfect life, but the evidence is clear: A prestigious job. A beloved family. On an ordinary Wednesday afternoon, he is about to pick up his six-year-old twins to go swimming when his wife, Alison, texts him that she’ll get the kids from school instead.

It’s not until she gets home later that Scott realizes she doesn’t have the children. And she never sent the text. Then the phone rings, and every parent’s most chilling nightmare begins. A man has stolen Sam and Emma. A man who warns the judge to do exactly as he is told in a drug case he is about to rule on. If the judge fails to follow his instructions, the consequences for the children will be dire.

For Scott and Alison, the kidnapper’s call is only the beginning of a twisting, gut-churning ordeal of blackmail, deceit, and terror; a high-profile trial like none the judge or his wife has ever experienced. Their marriage falters. Suspicions and long-buried jealousies rise to the surface. Fractures appear. Lies are told. Through it all, Scott and Alison will stop at nothing to get their children back, no matter the cost to themselves…or to each other.

The Trophy Child by Paula Day

This book is being published on March 7th. So far, I have heard good things about it so I can’t wait to start reading it.

trophy-childAbout the book

Karen Bloom is not the coddling mother type. She believes in raising her children for success. Some in the neighborhood call her assertive, others say she’s driven, but in gossiping circles she’s known as: the tiger mother. Karen believes that tough discipline is the true art of parenting and that achievement leads to ultimate happiness. She expects her husband and her children to perform at 200 percent—no matter the cost. But in an unending quest for excellence, her seemingly flawless family start to rebel against her.

Her husband Noel is a handsome doctor with a proclivity for alcohol and women. Their prodigy daughter, Bronte, is excelling at school, music lessons, dance classes, and yet she longs to run away. Verity, Noel’s teenage daughter from his first marriage, is starting to display aggressive behavior. And Karen’s son from a previous relationship falls deeper into drug use. When tragedy strikes the Blooms, Karen’s carefully constructed facade begins to fall apart—and once the deadly cracks appear, they are impossible to stop.

  1. Three books I want to read! I’m so jealous you got the time to read Jewell’s haha! I’m stuck and can’t fit it into my schedule! I came across Say Nothing earlier and I love the sound it! We don’t often get judges, lawyers are more common!
    Happy reading!

    1. I hope that you will get a chance to read I Found You in March. Its really great and I hope that you that you will enjoy it as much as I did. I just finished reading Say Nothing during my lunch-break at work. I also liked the fact that the judge was the Mc. The book is a mix of legal and psychological thriller. A different but wonderful read.

Thanks Donna. Happy reading to you too 🙂

    1. I definitely recommend I Found You. I look forward to hearing your thoughts about The Trophy Child. I have decided to read another book before I get to it but hopefully I will get started on Sunday.

Thanks so much for dropping by. Heading over to your post now. Happy reading to you too 🙂

      1. I’m going to move I Found You onto my list of books I want to get to this year – thanks so much for the recommendation. I hope we both enjoy The Trophy Child when we get to it – I’ve loved all of the author’s previous novels so I have high hopes for this one. 🙂

  2. I’m so glad you loved I Found You!! I read it in Oct for a contest I won and will post my review in April but I totally agree with you, it was such a perfect read! I can’t remember the last time a mystery made me cry but I did with that book. It’s my first book by her and I’ll be reading her backlist for sure. I also have Say Nothing coming up so I’ll be curious to hear your final thoughts

    1. I get what you mean about I Found You. In particular, one reveal really broke my up. The author gave us hope so I was looking forward to a different ending for one of the characters. It definitely was an emotional read.

I finished reading Say Nothing yesterday. The second part of the book was fast-paced and I ended up enjoying it. I will post my review over the weekend.

I look forward to your reviews of both books.

  3. Ohhh Can’t wait for I found you, I think I’m going to enjoy it too! I read the previous one by Paula Daly… I’m curious to know about this one

    1. I hope that you will. I can’t wait to discuss it with you 🙂

I have never read any books by Paula Daly. This one has such good reviews so I hope that I will like it.

  4. Say Nothing and I Found You both sound really, really good! I’ll have to give them both a try!

  5. I’m just about to properly start I Found You, so it’s good to hear you enjoyed it that much! I will definitely be looking forward to it now. 🙂

      1. I finished it the other day and I really enjoyed it! A lot better than my first experience with her work (The Girls), although that one was still enjoyable as well.

    1. Thank you 🙂 And yes, the book had a dancing peacock. Weird thing but it stuck on my mind:-) Have a wonderful week and happy reading.

  6. Well I’ve read two of your offerings this week – I love Lisa Jewell’s writing, she is on my list of ‘must-buy’ authors and Paula Daly’s The Trophy Child was a compulsive read. I’ll see what your final verdict on Say Nothing is – I do hope it picks up the pace for you soon.

    1. I read your review of Trophy Child and it made me excited to read the book. I hope to get started on Sunday evening. Lisa’s writing is amazing. I found you was my first book by her but its definitely not the last one.

I ended up really liking Say Nothing. The pace picked up and the final chapters were quite intense:-)

    1. I usually have an idea of what I will read next especially if they are ARCs. However, I don;t always stick to the schedule. I am currently reading The Hairdressers of Harare since I was in the mood for African Literature although I hadn’t planned on reading it soon 🙂
