Ben can’t see why his mother dislikes his new girlfriend. And Amber doesn’t want Judi anywhere near her new family. Amber just wants Ben and the children.

The further Judi delves into Amber’s personal life, the closer she gets to shocking secrets that could change everything. And Judi must make a decision that could lead to the most disastrous consequences.

I enjoyed this book. You can find my review here.

A Negro and an OfayCurrently Reading

In 1952, after a year on the run, disgraced Chicago Police Officer Elliot Caprice wakes up in a jailhouse in St. Louis. His friends from his hometown secure his release and he returns to find the family farm in foreclosure and the man who raised him dying in a flophouse. Desperate for money, he accepts a straight job as a process server and eventually crosses paths with a powerful family from Chicago’s North Shore. A captain of industry is dead, the key to his estate disappeared with the chauffeur, and soon Elliot is in up to his neck. The mixed-race son of Illinois farm country must return to the Windy City with the Chicago Police on his heels and the Syndicate at his throat. Good thing he’s had a lifetime of playing both sides to the middle.

I am a few chapters in but struggling so far. I love the 1950s setting but the story-line is yet to grab my attention. However, this  book  has a lot of praise. On goodreads, it has lots of 5  and  4 stars ratings so I will keep reading and hopefully, it will turn around soon.

OITNB

OINTB.png

I know, I know…This isn’t a book but every year, whenever OITNB is released, things get to a standstill. I stop reading, cooking, spying on neighbors (no, I never do that…or do i? lol). Nothing else gets done until the final episode. I just started watching season 5 on Monday night.

And then………….

Part of SilencePart of the Silence by Debbie Howells

When they find Evie Sherman, battered and left for dead in a maize field, the young woman has no recollection of who she is. After three days in a hospital bed, the fog in her head begins to lift, and she remembers two names: her own, and that of her three-year-old daughter, Angel. Evie is convinced that Angel is in grave danger. But the police can find no evidence of the girl’s existence.

It’s clear that Evie is having some kind of mental breakdown—or is it? Even in the depths of her amnesiac darkness, Evie knows her daughter’s voice, her chameleon eyes, every precious hair on her head. So how can she be losing her mind?

As Evie’s grasp on reality slips away, she finds herself haunted by the same three-word warning, which she hears over and over: Trust no one. But whom is she being warned against? The police? The doctors and nurses? Or the mysterious figure who’s been watching her, who knows all her secrets, has a hidden agenda—and perhaps their own twisted version of reality.

I read Debbie Howell’s debut, Beauty of the End last year which I absolutely loved. I really like the sound of her new book though it does sound a lot like Here and Gone by Haylen Beck which I recently reviewed here.

So what are you reading? Let me know in the comments section.

Happy Reading!

    1. lol I still have a number of favorite series like OITNB and Criminal Minds which I keenly follow. The season started out slow but now its super addictive. I am watching it at every chance I get when at home 🙂

    1. haha no worries Inge. I hope that you will watch it someday but be warned, you may end up binge-watching all five seasons. Once you get started, it becomes hard to stop watching 🙂 I got Part of Silence from the publisher and since I enjoyed the author’s previous book, I have very high hopes with this one. I will let you know how it goes 🙂

  1. Part Of The Silence looks great! And you already know what I thought of Liar. 😉 I hope you will enjoy your books this week and have fun watching OITNB!

    1. Thank you so much. I started reading Part of Silence yesterday and so far its really a captivating read. OITNB was really interesting but its now over until next year 🙂

    1. I only have half an episode to go, I can’t wait to finish watching when I get home. I can already guess the cliffhanger at the end but will see if I am right 🙂

  2. I love the sound of Liar! I think I need to seek that one out for myself.

I still need to start OitNB! It’s been on my list for so long but I barely watch any TV now, so I don’t know if I’ll get the chance.

    1. That is okay especially if you don’t like TV shows. Liar is great so I definitely recommend it. Thanks for stopping by 🙂

  3. I just signed up for Netflix this past weekend so I guess I’ll start on OITNB then 🙂 So many choices, I can’t decide which.. haha.. I like your humor with spying on the neighbors 🙂

    1. haha thank you 🙂 I hope that you will get to watch OITNB but then again Netflix has so many wonderful shows so I hope that you will enjoy whatever you get.

  4. My desire to watch Netflix is conflicting with my desire to read books! I don’t watch OITNB but I am watching The Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt! As for books, right now I’m reading the second in the Anne of Green Gables series, Anne of Avonlea. It’s charming and sweet, as I expected.

    1. I have never heard of Unbreakable Kimmy Schidmt. I will check it out. Glad that yo are enjoying the Anne of Green Gables series. I hope to read the books someday. Thanks for stopping by and happy reading.

    1. I am a few seasons behind with Suits. I should binge-watch so that I can catch up 🙂 I didn’t know about Gypsy until you mentioned it. I have just checked it out on imdb and will definitely be watching that, it sounds great. Thank you and happy reading to you too this week 🙂
