Happy New Year: Blogging/Reading Updates

happy new year

I hope y’all enjoyed the holidays. I spent a few, blissful days with my mum at the countryside before coming back to Nairobi on the 29th. My break is now over. I am back to work for the next 3 weeks but will take the last week of January off for final plans before the wedding on February 2nd.

2018 Bookish Regrets:

regrets

  1. Not reading enough of my own titles
  2. Over-requesting books on NetGalley hence reading ARCs like it is part of my job. The pressure to meet deadlines was real. I managed to clear my shelf by December, 2018 and honestly feel so relieved.

Plans for 2019

So you already know my personal plans, wedding, wedding, marriage and all that comes with that 😀

wedding plans

  1. Lighter reads – I had a random idea yesterday that I should probably read lighter books and if possible, romance novels for the next month. I don’t read romance but I figured that it would be a good genre to read just before and after the wedding. Fits in with the season, will fill my mind with the good stuff hence distracting me from the stressful planning and worrying about whether I can still fit in my gown after all the holiday eating I did.

I just finished reading Good Samaritans by Will Carver and I am currently reading Our Kind of Cruelty by Araminta Hall. Next up is The Mother in Law by Sally Hepworth.

Yes, yes I hear you, all these are thrillers but I promise you, I will find me a nice lighter read after this.

Probably will read the following books which are already on my shelf:

  • Five Days by Douglas Kennedy
  • Wedding Night by Sophie Kinsella
  • One Day in December by Josie Silver
  • The Choice by Nicholas Sparks

I’ll probably throw in a couple of thrillers in-between the love stories, just to keep things normal 😀

2. Read my own books – This has been my goal for a while now but I think I will be able to achieve it this year. As I have mentioned, I cleared my NetGalley shelf last year. Let’s see how the rest of the year goes.

Due to what is happening in my personal life, I will probably be reading and blogging less until after the wedding…maybe.I will still be around, just not as much as before, I think, I don’t know, maybe nothing will change. Okay, lets just see how it goes.

I look forward to interacting with y’all though. Please don’t do too much damage to my TBR with all your fab recommendations 😀

Cheers and once again, Happy New Year!

I didn’t achieve my reading goals for 2018 but I did enjoy almost all of the 45 books I read.

      Thanks Nasaye. Amen.

I am glad that you enjoyed most of your 2018 reads even if not all of them. That is definitely a win in my books. Happy 2019.

  2. Wonderful post! I read lots of women’s fiction mixed in with my psychological thrillers, it’s actually perfect combination in my humble opinion! Enjoy and happy happy wedding!💕💕

Thank you, Berit. I haven’t read a lot of women fiction or romance but definitely hoping to have more of both genres on my TBR this month.

      Thank you ❤

Oh the countdown has now really begun! I’m so happy for you, it will be the most wonderful day! Love your idea of reading a bit more romance with the wedding in sight, and of course reading more of your own novels this year. That one’s also a resolution of mine and I already read one so, so far so good :-).

Yaas, can’t believe that we now have less than a month to go. Stressful but mostly exciting. Thanks you so much Inge ❤

Yeah, thought i'd read more romance now. Its the right season.

Best of luck with your reading goals. I hope you enjoyed the title that you read. Good Samaritans and Our Kind of Cruelty are from my own TBR so I am off to a good start too though fell off the wagon today and got 3 ARCs. I hope that won't be the trend.

        Thank you, Diana!! 🤗
I wish you the very best with the wedding!! I hope you and your hubby will have a long, blissful life together. 🎉🎊 I’m so happy for you.
We can’t help it with those thrillers. I love my romance books, but I get antsy for a good thriller, true crime or police procedural after a while. And I love reading about the ones others have enjoyed. I just wish I had more time to spend reading. 😉
Wishing you an incredible 2019 too, Diana. 🥰
