Review: Good Samaritans by Will Carver

good samaritansOne crossed wire, three dead bodies and six bottles of bleach

Seth Beauman can’t sleep. He stays up late, calling strangers from his phonebook, hoping to make a connection, while his wife, Maeve, sleeps upstairs. A crossed wire finds a suicidal Hadley Serf on the phone to Seth, thinking she is talking to The Samaritans.
But a seemingly harmless, late-night hobby turns into something more for Seth and for Hadley, and soon their late-night talks are turning into day-time meet-ups. And then this dysfunctional love story turns into something altogether darker, when Seth brings Hadley home…
And someone is watching…
Dark, sexy, dangerous and wildly readable, Good Samaritans marks the scorching return of one of crime fiction’s most exceptional voices.

Review

If you could have coffee with any author in 2019, who would you choose?

I’d choose Will Craver because of this book. It must take a fascinating mind to come up with such brilliant, dark, twisted story. I would ask him about the inspiration for this novel. I have read some twisted stories but damn, this one was on the dark side, in the best possible way.

Seth has a weird hobby. He suffers from insomnia. While most readers like me would probably pick a book when sleep is elusive, Seth calls up strangers. First of all, I’d hate to be one of the strangers that he calls. I can’t imagine getting a phone call in the middle of the night with a stranger asking whether I want to talk. Secondly, Seth had a wife. Can you imagine being in bed, hearing your husband call up strangers at 2:00am. Crazy!

This ended up being quite a twisty, bumpy ride. The twists were really good. I loved the first major one that had me questioning all my assumptions. It was that train wreck that I couldn’t look away from.

Most of the characters were despicable.  It is like a psychos’ convention had been organized in this book. The ending was just as twisted as the rest of the story.

Dark, twisted and disturbingly captivating. This book makes me feel like I need to clean stuff, anyone got some bleach I can borrow?

Haha I’m the same with phonecalls.I don’t like them and even with friends in family,I’d rather text or chat unless a call is neccesary so being called by a stranger at 2am would be so offensive 😀
      I hope you’ll like this one.Thanks Norrie.
