Review: The Girls in the Snow (Nikki Hunt #1) by Stacy Green

In the remote forests of Stillwater, Minnesota, you can scream for days and no one will hear you. So when the bodies of two fifteen-year-old girls are discovered frozen in the snow, Special Agent Nikki Hunt is sure the killer is local: someone knew where to hide them and thought they’d never be found.

Home for the first time in twenty years, Nikki sees that the whole town had been frantically searching for missing best friends Madison and Kaylee, and when she finds out who Madison’s step-father is, she becomes desperate to lead the case. John was once the person she trusted most in the world, who stood by her when she was just sixteen and her parents were murdered. Who supported her when she identified their killer, Mark Todd.

Are Madison and Kaylee’s deaths connected to her parents’ murders? And can she face up to her past before another life is taken?

The Girls in the Snow is the first book in the new Nikki Hunt Series. It features FBI Agent and Criminal Profiler, Nikki Hunt, who is investigating the murders of two girls left frozen in the snow. Agent Hunt has to go back to her hometown to work the case, a town haunted by the dark memories of her parents’ murder. Soon, she gets caught up trying to keep abreast with the new developments of her parents’ case and solve the murders of the two girls.

This is a fast-paced, compelling read that held me captive up to the last page. I liked Nikki’s background which added to her intrigue. I also liked her line of work and the fact that she is not the usual detective we see in most crime thrillers. The BAU angle reminded me of one of my favorite TV shows, Criminal Minds.

The Girls in the Snow by Nikki Hunt is such a fantastic start to a new series. It has a great female protagonist who is easy to root for, well crafted support characters and a compelling case. I can’t wait to get my hands on book two already.

I highly recommend this utterly enjoyable book to all fans of this genre.

      1. I don’t think I’ve read a lot of those either… I think The Collector series by Dot Hutchison has FBI agents as a lead? Probably more books too, but I read so many detective thrillers that it’s hard to keep them all apart sometimes. xD
